Apart from Home Guards, we like to occasionally re-enact as civilians, many of the events throughout Britain would not be as successful if there weren't some civilians present.
We favour dressing as workmen, or labourers as there a many 'posh' gents around already. We are also members of another group called UK Homefront, these are one of the premier homefront display groups in Britain.

"Now then chaps, this is what the enemy look like and here is some of his equipment"
British Intelligence officers often toured Army Units, giving displays of German Military Uniforms and Equipment. This was to prepare the men, who after all had never seen an enemy soldier before going into battle for the first time.
They used Items brought back from the front line, that had been taken off captured enemy personnel and were able to put it to good use training our men.
The advantage of understanding how the enemy's equipment and weaponry worked, speaks for it's self, it was a vital role for the Intelligence officer.
Many people are unaware that the Germans had their own version of the home guard, they were called the Volkssturm, which translates as 'Peoples Storm'. They were a badly equipped, poorly trained, civilian army. We were asked to portray a small group for a Living History exercise.
